Each week, the editors at Yoga Journal compile moments—sometimes mind-bending, sometimes simple—that remind us yoga is, in fact, everywhere.

OVERHEARD

“It was all you. I was just your tour guide.” This is one of our Kundalini yoga teacher’s standard response every time students thank her after an amazing experience, as if she were the facilitator of a psychedelic therapy session. Actually, that’s kinda the vibe of her class.

MINDFULNESS

An article published in the New York Times outlined more than 30 everyday hacks from contemporary health experts that can change your life. Out of these, 11 relate to pausing and slowing your breath, setting aside a few moment to meditate, or simply being aware of your (faulty) perspectives and runaway thoughts. Although yoga experts have taughtt these for centuries, reminders are always appreciated.

PRACTICE

This week we practiced alongside a woman of a certain age—and accumulated wisdom—who stacked two mats on top of one another for added cushioning in yin class. We got to chatting and she explained not only is the cushiness unparalleled for long holds in seated and reclined poses, but when someone else forgets their mat, she’s able to provide one. That is yoga.

PODCAST

Each conversation on The Funny Thing About Yoga Podcast with teachers Bradshaw Wish and Giana Gambino explores of-the-moment topics that aren’t being talked about enough in most studios and yoga spaces. The latest episode with guest J. Brown explores the responsibility inherent in having a platform as a yoga teacher. These insights should be required listening in yoga teacher trainings.
