Carting layers to and from class—or anywhere, really—is never fun. So when an item that’s cute, utilitarian, and compact shows up, it’s usually worth some closet consideration. I purchased this Outdoor Voices windbreaker last year, and it has since become a travel essential and a go-to for my jaunts to yoga class and the gym. As a bonus, it’s currently available at roughly half the regular price.

Most of this jacket’s benefits are immediately evident. The seasonal piece comes in fun yet neutral colors and features a flattering silhouette, a hood (!), a snap button kangaroo pouch, and options for a perfect fit (pull tabs allow for cinching at the hood and waist and cuffs are easily rolled).

But my favorite part of this windbreaker is hidden at back: a discreet zipper allows the entire jacket to be stuffed into a self-contained sack with an adjustable strap, allowing you to throw it over your shoulder like a purse or clip it onto a piece of luggage.

The previously noted cinching abilities mean that the piece pairs well with practically any bottoms, easily morphing from a loose, waist-length piece to a super-cropped option. I also love the design, which strikes a nice balance between athletic and wearable, meaning that it’s not relegated to my fitness pile alone. I’ve styled this jacket with low-slung yoga pants and high-waisted Levi’s. The sky’s the limit.

It’s worth mentioning that this windbreaker is incredibly lightweight. It doesn’t provide a wealth of protection against the cold, nor is it waterproof (although it can withstand some PNW drizzle). Still, as far as layers go, it’s quick-drying, breathable and cozy, an ideal choice for an evening class, a coffee run, or a hike—and it’s easy to remove and stow as your body warms up.
