If you’ve watched with curiosity as Liforme mats increase in numbers at hot yoga studios everywhere, you’re not alone. The UK-based brand has grown its presence stateside in recent years, although covetous students and teachers cite its price tag as the primary reason they haven’t purchased it. That just changed.

The Liforme Original yoga mat is currently discounted 15 percent as part of Amazon’s early Prime Day deals, down to $127. (That’s $23 off.) It’s the first time we’ve seen a meaningful deal on the mat since late last year.

Still, a lot of folks are divided on whether it’s worth the cost. We asked 18 testers to try their practice on dozens of different mats in our Best Yoga Mats guide and they rated the Liforme Original an honorable mention. We believe it has many admirable traits, although the full price of $150 gave us pause. After noticing the recent discount, we went back to our notes.

What We Like About It

There’s a reason the Liforme Original tends to be popular among the hot yoga crowds and that is, of course, its grip. It’s not common to experience this sort of stay-put potential from a mat that’s entirely non-toxic and biodegradable. Fittingly, the surface actually seems to get tackier (in a good way) with a little sweat.

Also, the Liforme Original is wider and longer than most mats, affording ample space to navigate poses. Many vinyasa goers also appreciate the 4mm thickness, which doesn’t allow you to sink in as you quickly transition from pose to pose.

Among those who are proponents of Liforme are London-based teacher and YJ contributor Adam Husler, who uses it as his default mat, and YouTube influencer Yoga With Kassandra, who finds it to be the perfect thickness when placed on carpet during her home practice.

What Gives Us Pause

Although the Liforme Original is commonly relied on for grip during a hot yoga practice, the surface color tends to smudge with sweat marks that don’t always disappear when dry. As one of our testers explained, “it can be challenging to maintain that ‘new look.’” And looks are a part of the draw to this sleek mat.

Still, some found themselves quite distracted by the alignment lines. (A self-described “A-type personality” found that they supported her feeling “obsessive” about her alignment. Use that self-awareness you cultivate during yoga to assess whether the same might apply to you.) Others were disappointed that the mat wasn’t thicker and more cushioned.

Ultimately, it comes down to your individual practice and preferences. The mat is designed for those who appreciate grip over cushioning during poses and transitions, especially in heated environments, and for whom eco-friendly measures are a priority. If you’re easily distracted by markings or find yourself practicing more restorative forms of yoga, you may prefer a mat with more cushioning.
